It is so evident that this has been arranged thoughtfully and truly works. On a side note, where have those drawer dividers been all my life? Thank you so much!
We have found a system that works so well for us. You must try the drawer dividers. We have them all over the house! So glad I read this one! Thank you! Are you for hire??? Jess, Thanks so much for taking the time. I sure hope this helps! We were gifted a lot of onesies when Ben was born, plus Ben could fit into a few different sizes at once.
Not the worst problem to have, but having that many onesies or clothes in general stressed me out. I learned a few months in that less was more. This trick made organizing a whole lot less intimidating and a lot easier to maintain for the long haul. So once I pared down, it was time to start organizing the onesies. So instead, I use a super easy roll method to save space and see what options there are available for Ben to wear.
So easy to do and even easier to maintain. One question I have gotten a lot about this method. Yet, I found this task to be overwhelmingly difficult. It needed to be functional and flow easily, but I had no clue what was needed or where to put it. Again, mom life should be functional. The nursery organization does not need to be perfect as long as it works for you.
To save space, I would highly recommend buying the changing tray and changing pad to put on top of the dresser so that everything is safe and secure for baby. We were on a super tight budget for baby 1. Nursery Organization Tip: When buying a dresser, open and close the drawers to see how quiet they are.
This dresser is awesome for that reason. Munchkin waterproof pads are great for accidents during changes. A newborn must if you ask me. Between all the spit up and diaper changes, the last thing you will want to do is change the change table cover over and over again.
For stains, I keep my hamper to the left of changing station with Oxiclean Baby in the hamper to prevent stains. Socks and plain onsies the kids you put under shirts to keep them warm 3. Crib sheets 5. Pj's 6. Bath needs. If you can make 3 drawers work great, but it would have been impossible for me. My daughter also has 6 drawers and a full closet. If you are getting lots of different sizes at your baby shower plus any hand me downs you'll be overflowing in no time!
I feel like 3 might be not quite enough. But that's just our experience. If you are super organized and on top of swapping sizes regularly you should be fine with 3. To give you a little hope We've been using a 3 drawer Malm Ikea dresser for our daughter since she was born, and the bottom drawer is exclusively cloth diapers, so we've really been using 2 drawers and a third of a closet. Granted, this does not include linens. Bath towels and washcloths are stored in the bathroom, coats are hung in the hall closet, and receiving blankets and spare crib sheets are on a shelf by her crib.
However, all her actual clothes plus PJ's plus swim wear plus bibs plus an entire shoebox of little random things pacifiers, nursing cover, breast pads that I wanted out of sight DO fit in those 2 drawers! Just keep only the size she currently fits in the dresser and put the rest in storage somewhere if you want to hang on for a future kiddo and you'll be fine. This also means you only have to look at and choose from the clothes she can actually wear and you're not overwhelmed with false choice!
We also saved a ton of space by stacking everything upright, konmari style, in little organizers within the drawers. Good luck! Oh, and I should add that the dresser is actually inside the closet. It's a full sized closet and a lower dresser, and nothing she owns hangs low enough to get in the way, so the dresser actually sits in the closet under her clothes on hangers.
Frees up so much space!
