Autumn has turned to winter, and on Christmas Eve Charlotte reads all the letters from Werther with despair and overwhelming emotion. Charlotte remains inflexible. Charlotte, gripped by a frightful foreboding, rushes to Werther, whom she finds dying.
She finally confesses her love for him, thus providing him the few moments of happiness and peace that he wanted so much.
