How can i thin wilton candy melts

I had a problem with the candy melts on my cake pops. They were never really smooth like I wanted them to be. I tried the shortening and did not like it. The candy melts was still not smoothed. I was on the Internet one night watching another lady making pops. She was using the paramount crystals in her chocolate. They turned out so pretty.

So I ordered the paramount crystals. Love it. The ones I buy are not. The ingredients listed are Hydrogenated palm kernel oil, mono and diglycerides, soy lecithin. The paramount crystals are made out of hydrogenated palm kernel oil , soy lecithin. I did not like the way the shortening maded my pops turn out. I use nothing but paramount crystal now.

They were melted and weren't flakes anymore probably cause no one buys them at Walmart. It also says on the back it can be used melted or not. They worked like a charm and I will most definitely buy them again. Such a handy post x soooo glad I'm not the only one who struggled with candy melt dipping!! I had no idea they needed thinning first I just thought it was me Lols!! I used coconut oil to thin it out it tasted like coconut which I like but not everyone does. Wiltons is very hard to spread.

Can this be stove melted? First timer here need help! I also use coconut oil, and it works great. Try the refined kind without coconut flavor. I microwave the melts on the chocolate melting setting. I assume it's half power. The key is to stop and stir often or you risk burning it. How about with candy apples?? I tried the micro method A disaster!!! What temp do you set your crock pot to? I have settings like 4 hours-6 hours-8 hours hours-and warm.

I am very interested in using this method as the microwave method makes the chocolate cool down too quickly and it gets thick. I make tons of chocolate covered items in my shop and my go to method for melting chocolates are mini crock pots. I warm the chocolate up slow and stir frequently.

I turn it off when the chocolate is melted leaving me perfectly melted chocolate. Sometimes I may have 7 or 8 crockpots going at once to accommodate multi-colored items in a batch. I wouldn't recommend this method if you're just needing small amounts though. First those, I use coffee cups. They retain heat exceptionally well.

Hope this helps! Hi I also use 2 teaspoons of vegetable oil for one bag of melts! Our craft store just recently started carrying the crystals so I haven't used them yet, but the oil works well! What a great tip! I will have to remember this if I ever attempt cake pops again Thanks for sharing at Welcome Home Wednesdays. I recently added coconut oil to chocolate for cake pop dipping wiltons black colored chocolate and it did work well for thinning BUT when I put the cake pops in the fridge they got a little spotty which I believe was due to the hardening of the coconut oil.

The downside, they are expensive and are only available in dark and white wafers. Which means that you would have to color your own. As a side note, only color with oil based colors or the candy melts will seize.

There are three ways I like to thin candy melts and they are listed below. In the photo above, I show the results using three different methods.

The shortening and the vegetable oil were very similar in texture. Therefore, they are worth considering if you need a quick solution. For this project, I used one pack of yellow candy melts and two packs of blue candy melts. Each package was 12 ounces each, even though some candy melts come in ounce packages.

Vegetable shortening is my go-to method when I run out of EZ Thins. If I had to place this list in order, shortening would come in at number two. Start with adding two teaspoons of vegetable oil per one bag of candy melts. Heat as you normally would and be sure to mix it well to fully combine. With the addition of vegetable oil , your dipped items may need to sit for longer than normal. Be sure not to add too much vegetable oil, as the candy melts may not fully harden on your dipped desserts.

The oil will not change the taste or color of your candy melts. In addition to vegetable oil, coconut oil can also be added as a thinning agent. However, it is important to note coconut oil will add a slight coconut taste. Canola oil can also be used in a pinch. Avoid using olive oil to thin your melts, the melts will not set properly and it can affect the taste.

Vegetable shortening is also a great option for thinning your melts. It is the go-to method for many people and adding one teaspoon at a time will help achieve a lovely, smooth consistency. It will not change the flavor or color of your melts. Paramount crystals are similar to EZ Thin. They are often used for working as an agent to melt and thin hard chocolate, yogurt coatings, carob, and of course, candy melts. Keep the crystals in your fridge or some cool-dry place, or else they might liquefy.

And keeping it in the fridge will increase its shelf-life. Use one teaspoon of this crystal into one pound of warm and melted candy melts, stirring steadily with a spatula and check if the consistency is right. If not, add some more and stir until you get your desired texture. Last but not least, cocoa butter, aka theobroma oil, also is another ingredient used for thinning candy melts. And it is a major element in the chocolate industry.

This is the thing which makes the chocolates so smooth and silky. If you are using chocolate-flavored candy melts, then this is the best option as a thinner, in our opinion. In other flavors, it will bring the chocolaty smell, which might not go well with the overall taste. Add and stir it well with the candy melts, as we have mentioned earlier in the other ingredients.

Also, keep in mind that cocoa butter is a bit expensive compared with the other ingredients we have discussed earlier.
