Wait until they leave, and when they have sprung the traps, capture them. Go into the cave and greet the criminals. Find an alternative entrance to the cave, then charge them from behind. They are too dangerous to attempt to capture.
They are no threat to you. Enter the cave and attack them directly. Examine the cave ceiling closely. Find loose, unstable sections of rock and let the earth do your work for you. Enter the cave and attempt to subdue them, with non-lethal weapons and magic. The criminals you dealt with belonged to a larger organization, operating out of a nearby city. They send a representative to you, offering you a place in their organization, promising wealth and power.
And when you fall from their good graces, who will they have replace you? I am no fool, I will not trust criminals. You accept his offer, though you plant an enchanted patch on his cloak, allowing you to track him and eavesdrop on any conversations he might have. Do I look like some two-bit henchman to you?
I have no great desire for wealth, and already have plenty of power. What more could you offer me? Not only do you refuse his offer, you capture him and drag him to the guard, to be interrogated. You accept his offer, and go with him to meet his boss. You are hunting in the forest, when you come across a wounded wolf.
He has his leg caught in a bear trap, and is moaning piteously. What do you do? Ah, it looks like dinner has come to me tonight! Better to kill it now and eat it—let its death have some meaning. Release the wolf and carry back to your home, tending to its wounds. It will never run again, but it still deserves some sort of life. You kill it quickly, granting it a merciful death, and go to find those that lay the traps in this section of the woods. Such traps are illegal, after all, and it could have been you just as easily as the wolf!
Leave the wolf to its fate. It was weak and deserves death. Eating such meat would leave a sour taste in your mouth.
You are working with a team of mercenaries, tracking down a kidnapped princess. She is trapped on the top floor of a tower, in a small fort infested with bandits. How do you proceed? Let the magi of the group come up with a plan. Charge in swinging, your group in tow. The more you can take down, the fewer your team will have to deal with when rescuing the princess. Sneak into the fort and climb the tower in the dead of night. When your group attacks, escape in the confusion with the princess.
Attack after they take their evening meal. The princess might be poisoned, but you have the antidote. You notice the creek that runs through the fort stems from a lake that is dammed upstream. Wait until your team sneaks up onto the walls of the fort, and destroy the dam, releasing the water and flooding the camp. The princess should be safe in the tower while your team deals with the rest of them. If they accept your terms, simply take the princess and go. If not, attack.
The bandits enjoy their night libations, and will have a difficult time mounting a defense in the early morning. Though it doesn't state all classes, you at least have an idea what would be in your ideal range.
It also represents the kinds of classes you prefer to use in RPG games like these. There aren't many of them out there, but if you can play a game where you can create your own army, you'd probably be inticed to choose these kinds :.
