Hi there. I'm using Excel and often use filters to find inconsistent data mis-spellings, etc. I'm finding that, with a simple filter on, dragging over cells hidden by the filter changes the values in the hidden cells too. This is something I don't remember from my last version of Excel. I'm wondering if I've mis-remembered how this control works, or if there is a setting I can't find.
My goal is to drag and fill or paste in a colum with a range of rows wiht some hidden filtered out rows, and have the filtered out data be unaffected, if that makes sense. Some time ago I created a spreadsheet and greyed out the areas that weren't needed. Now I need to expand the spreadsheet and use more columns. Trouble is I've forgotten how to unhide those columns. I didn't write any macros and usings the right-click unhide method is proven futile.
The sheet isn't protected which is puzzling since I can't get the mouse to even highlight any of the greyed out areas. Any suggestions would be fantastic! Active Cell Highlight Missing - Excel.
I am a very advanced Excel user so this is a new one for me. When I open any spreadsheet new or already populated the black box that normally frames the active cell is missing showing which cell you have selected.
Likewise when I 'select all' the sheet does not become shaded. I have not seen a single thread on this topic anywhere on the internet. I have protected a worksheet as it has several formulae on that I do not wat anyone else to mistakingly delete.
I then have spent time on setting up a sheet to track changes just in case this has any bearing on the problem. This is the only thing that I think I have changed since protecting this morning and now I cannot unprotect the sheet. I have not protected the workbook and the unprotect sheet function is now greyed out. Any ideas?
Hello, I need to know how to auto-fill text based on text in another cell. How can I set up a list like this? Mouse Pointer Problem - Excel. All on a sudden my mouse pointer in excel is not working properly. I cannot use my mouse to drag and fill, or to adjust the page break lines in the Page Break View mode. It always is in the shape of the white cross with black border and never changes it shape when pointed at the lower right edge of cells too. I suddenly see that parts of my sheet has been greyed out without me having consciously done it.

That was a huge clue! First I tried "Unhide" but it didn't help. That did not help either. Last try was to apply an auto filter and THEN "show all". That did the trick. It turns out I was wrong when I said I did not think the list was filtered. It was not that obvious because show all command in the filter section did not work in this case until I re-applied an auto filter. No need for any further help. But thanks anyway I will leave the test file up for a while in case anyone wants to take a look.
